With reference to your letter (19607/25) of the 14th May and the letter from this department (T 5383/2265/ 378) of the 4th ultimo, I am directed by Mr. Secretary Chamberlain to transmit to you herewith a copy of a
further despatch from His Majesty's Chargé d'Affaires at Peking respecting the claim of Yeap Seng Koon to British protection in China and the general question of arriving at en arrangement with the Chinese Govemment in regard to the protection by His Majesty's consuls in China of British subjects of Chinese origin.
2. Mr. Chamberlain will be glad to receive any observations Mr. Secretary Amery may have to offer in regard to this despatch.
